Common refrigeration symptoms
Not cooling
Ice is appearing
The build-up of ice in your refrigeration unit or chiller can be a sign of both a temperature fault and leaking. As such, our engineers will examine the unit to determine the exact cause of the problem. Typically, units that are freezing require a deep clean or a leak fixing.
Loss of performance
When the refrigeration or freezer unit is not performing as it once did, it may be due to not having the unit regularly serviced, but could also be a more serious issue such as a refrigerant leak. To resolve this, having the system deep cleaned is often enough if the unit is dirty. If the cause is a leak, however, more in-depth investigations will be required to find the potential leak.
Increased energy bills
Refrigeration units depend on being able to expel heat freely in order to remain at the required temperature. As such, when a build-up of grime or another blockage interferes with this, the system needs to work much harder to achieve the correct cooling performance. It also requires more electricity to power the same level of cooling performance and places undue stress on other system components, all of which lead to increased bills and reduced performance.
Noisy unit
If the outdoor unit is making more noise than usual, then it might require a replacement fan motor and likewise for the indoor unit. The condensate pump which removes moisture from the system may also be at fault as when these start to fail, they can become noisy.
Gas leak
Your system uses a reserve of refrigerant gas in order to function. If refrigerant gas is leaking from your unit, it will quickly stop working. Contact us and one of our engineers will visit to locate and repair the leak.
No power
When the refrigeration unit shuts down unexpectedly, check for tripped fuses in the main fuse board. For outdoor units, check the electrical isolator to ensure this is in the “on” position. In any case, call our team, who will talk you through the problem and dispatch an engineer as required.
