A fantastic reflection of our team’s professionalism—well done, everyone!

📢 Industry News: DEFRA Suspends Cellar Cooler Ban

Big news for the refrigeration industry! DEFRA has suspended the January 1, 2025, ban on cellar coolers following discussions with industry representatives, manufacturers, and suppliers initial decision to classify cellar cooling systems under the EU F-gas regulation 517/2014 sparked major concern, as these systems are primarily used for product cooling rather than comfort cooling.

The key issue is how these systems are classified under F-gas regulations. The industry argues that cellar cooling is for product refrigeration, while DEFRA initially categorised it as air conditioning under the single-split ban.

What’s next?

DEFRA has now confirmed that it will not enforce the cellar cooler ban for now, pending further enquiries with the Environment Agency and the European Commission. However, the agency has warned that future enforcement is still a possibility due to the ongoing HFC phase down and the availability of lower-GWP alternatives.

We’ll continue to monitor these developments closely and provide updates on what this means for businesses and installations moving forward.

That’s all for this month! Looking forward to another great year of growth, success, and innovation at MGI.
