FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
1. What areas do you cover?
We cover Oxford, Reading, High Wycombe, Cheltenham and Banbury. If you are unsure whether we serve your location, please get in touch, and we will be happy to advise.
2. Do you work on domestic and commercial properties?
Yes. We fit and service air conditioning systems for both domestic homeowners and commercial businesses. Our commercial offering also includes refrigeration and ventilation. Please note that we handle commercial refrigeration only; we do not work on domestic appliances such as fridge-freezers.
3. How long have you been trading?
McAlpine Grant Ilco Ltd has been trading for over 25 years. We bring that experience to every job, large or small.
1. How do I get a quote for a domestic air conditioning system?
For a single wall-mounted split system, you can use our online quote tool to get a fixed price quickly and easily. Answer a few questions about your property, room size, preferred unit position and pipe run distance, and you will receive a price based on your chosen brand tier. For multi-room jobs or more complex requirements, we will arrange a survey and provide a tailored quotation.
2. What is included in a standard domestic installation?
A standard installation includes supply and fitting of the indoor and outdoor unit, refrigerant pipework, electrical connections, drainage and full commissioning. Additional costs may apply for items such as a condensate pump (typically around £120), internal wall routing or extended pipe runs. Everything will be clearly detailed in your quotation before any commitment is made.
3. Will my installation comply with Building Regulations?
Yes. We are registered with the Competent Person Scheme through BESCA, which means we self-certify all relevant work under Part L of the Building Regulations. You will receive a compliance certificate as part of your installation documentation. Many installers are not registered; choosing one that is not could leave your installation non-compliant.
4. Do you offer finance for domestic installations?
Yes, finance options are available for eligible domestic customers through our recommended provider, Phoenix Finance. Visit our Finance Options page or get in touch to find out more.
1. How often should my air conditioning system be serviced?
For systems used primarily in summer for cooling, we recommend a service every 12 months. For systems used year-round for both heating and cooling, a service every six months is advisable. Regular servicing preserves your manufacturer’s warranty, keeps your system running efficiently and helps catch any issues before they develop into costly repairs.
2. What does a service include?
During a service visit, our engineer will clean the filters and indoor coil, check refrigerant levels, inspect electrical connections, test controls and thermostat operation and assess the general condition of the unit. A full report is provided after each visit.
3. My air conditioning system has stopped working. What should I do?
Get in touch with us as soon as possible. We provide reactive repairs for both domestic and commercial customers. Contracted customers on one of our maintenance plans receive priority callout and benefit from lower repair rates than non-contracted customers.
4. Do you repair all makes and models?
Our engineers are experienced across a wide range of systems. For repairs on Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric systems, our approved installer status means we have direct access to manufacturer training and technical support.
1. Do you design commercial air conditioning systems as well as fit them?
Yes. For commercial clients, we provide full design and installation services, including larger systems and VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) configurations. Every commercial project is quoted individually based on your specific requirements.
2. What refrigeration services do you offer?
We provide installation, servicing, repair and maintenance for commercial refrigeration systems. We do not work on domestic refrigeration appliances.
3. What ventilation systems do you install?
Our commercial ventilation offering includes MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery), HRVU (Heat Recovery Ventilation Units) and AHU (Air Handling Units). We handle the design and installation of these systems for commercial clients.
